FAQs & POLICIES
**Note: Though I hope my services will help you improve your manuscript and your skills as a writer, hiring an editor is not a guarantee of representation, publication, or sales.**
Payment Policy: All services under $150 / £120 must be paid in full up front in order to secure your booking. A 50% deposit may be used as a downpayment to secure your booking for all services $150 / £120 or over. The final 50% must be paid upon completion of the service in order to receive the final product. All payments are only accepted through PayPal. An invoice will be sent via email for each booked service.
Pricing: For larger critiques, prices are based on the final word count of your manuscript.
Word Count Policy: When booking, I will ask you for your total word count in order to invoice you. It's okay to make an estimate, but please understand that if your manuscript falls below your estimate, you will still be expected to pay for the word count you gave at booking. If your word count is more than estimated, you will need to pay the difference on the final invoice.
Example: If you book a full critique at 80,000 but you submit it to me and it's only 60,000, you will still be expected to pay for a 80k critique. If you book a full critique at 50K and you submit your manuscript at 90K, you will simply pay for the additional words on your final invoice. But it is easier for everyone if you do your word count check.
Cancellation Policy: If you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. For smaller critiques, your payment is refundable up until the day I start critiqueing. After that, it is nonrefundable. For full manuscripts, your money is fully refundable as long as you cancel 48 hours in advance of the starting date. If you cancel less than 48 hours in advance, there is a 20% cancellation fee.
What's your editing style? I deliver all criticism kindly and constructively, but I also point out what really does work in your manuscript. I will also help you brainstorm ideas for trouble spots and give you suggestions whenever possible. I will also make notes of your strengths and things that I like/enjoy as a reader, while pointing out some of your writing ticks (we all have them!).
What are my qualifications? I am the award-winning author of three novels, published with Little, Brown Books for Young Readers and I have eighteen years of editorial and writing experience. I have a bachelor’s degree with honours in English Literature and will soon be embarking on my MA. I am represented by Sarah Davies and Polly Nolan of the Greenhouse Literary Agency and my work has been optioned for TV. I am published in Germany, Russia, France, the UK and the US. I have a soft spot for horror and dark fantasy, as well as edgy contemporary fiction.
What's your turnaround time? It depends on the nature of the project, but I aim to complete full manuscript critiques in 2-4 weeks; partial manuscript critiques within 1-2 weeks.
What format should my manuscript be in?
Please send your MS as a .doc or .docx file. I use Word and track changes to make the edits. Also, your MS needs to be in the traditional MS format: Times New Roman, Size 12; double spaced.
I’m not sure about my work…
If there's something specific you're concerned about, just ask.
